Gavin Mackie one of Larchfield Estate’s owners is about to undertake the biggest endurance challenge of his life – it must be a midlife crisis!
Along with 4 others (David Tobin, Roger Pannell, Keith Liggett and Donald Stone) they plan to cycle 500 miles around the very North of Scotland.
Until two months ago Gavin had hardly been on a bike for 20+ years, so muscle memory was non-existent!
They begin the 500-mile journey in Inverness on the 17th September and ride for 7 days across some of the most scenic landscape Scotland has to offer. It also provides cyclists with some of the toughest hills and glens in the country! From what we can gather, the distance is not the big challenge. It is the constant climbing and descending Scottish mountains in all weathers, (while swallowing midges).
Gavin is trying to raise as much money for charity and if you would like to donate there are two great options:
Domfounded or Cancer Research
Gavin is personally trying to raise money for Domfounded which was set up in memory of their Best Man (Dom Abraham), who sadly died while (on his bicycle) at the age of 40. He was suffering from a very rare condition (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome). Before he died he committed to setting up a community based foundation which is now Domfounded. If you would like to support this please see the link HERE
The team aim is to raise money for Cancer Research to support people living with and affected by cancer on a daily basis.
Cancer has directly affected the Mackie family like most families. If you would like to support us on this trip please click HERE
to make a donation via our page on the Virgin Money Giving site.
Keep an eye on our social media where we hope to keep you updated on the team's journey.
All support is greatly appreciated and will help Gavin, David, Roger, Keith & Donald grind out the miles!
